{"id":3246,"date":"2016-09-23T07:00:53","date_gmt":"2016-09-23T07:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.liveyourlifept.com\/blog\/?p=3246"},"modified":"2016-09-23T07:00:53","modified_gmt":"2016-09-23T07:00:53","slug":"food-is-fuel-are-you-starting-your-day-on-empty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/liveyourlifept.com\/blog\/2016\/09\/23\/food-is-fuel-are-you-starting-your-day-on-empty\/","title":{"rendered":"Food is Fuel &#8211; Are You Starting Your Day on Empty?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever ran\u00a0out the door in the morning in a hurry to get somewhere and then ran out of gas before you got to your destination?\u00a0 Not a good way to start the day.\u00a0 When the car starts jerking and sputtering as it\u2019s using up every last ounce of gas it\u2019s almost like it\u2019s telling you, \u201cI\u2019ve given you everything I\u2019ve got, I can\u2019t run on empty, I NEED FUEL and I\u2019m not moving until I get some.\u201d Our bodies talk to us in much the same way.\u00a0 If we don\u2019t take the time in the morning to \u201cfuel up\u201d we\u2019ll start feeling tired and sluggish with no energy and we too will run out of gas.\u00a0 WE NEED FUEL every day to operate efficiently, with the energy it takes to do all the things we need to do in the course of a day.\u00a0 The kind of fuel we use however does make a difference.\u00a0 If we put soda pop or glue in the gas tank of our car the damage would be costly, maybe even beyond repair, no one would do that.\u00a0 Yet, many people don\u2019t think twice about what they\u2019re putting in their own tank, maybe grabbing coffee and a donut as they run out the door, or buying some processed snack food from a vending machine mid-morning because they didn\u2019t take time to eat.<\/p>\n<p>Like our cars, our bodies need the \u201cright\u201d fuel for optimal performance.\u00a0 If we start our day on an empty tank or constantly put in the wrong fuel, we can be doing more harm than good and eventually we will need repairs.\u00a0 So what is the \u201cright\u201d fuel?\u00a0 Well, we\u2019re all different, so the \u201cright\u201d fuel can be different for each of us.\u00a0 However, in the often confusing and complex world of nutrition the basics are simple.\u00a0 Most people would be better off consuming less meat, milk, sugar, and chemically processed, artificial junk \u201cfood\u201d.\u00a0 Start consuming more water, whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables, especially dark leafy greens.\u00a0 So, for a healthy and nutritious breakfast to start your day with the \u201cright\u201d fuel, here are a few simple ideas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Oatmeal<\/strong> \u2013 a great source of both soluble and insoluble fiber, enhances the immune system, has a low glycemic load with anti-inflammatory and heart-healthy properties. Add some fresh berries for even more power packed nutrition and forget instant, the less processing the better.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eggs<\/strong> \u2013 can be prepared MANY ways, are one of the best sources of protein and loaded with vitamins. Veggie eggs are super simple and full of nutrients &#8211; saut\u00e9 a mix of your favorite veggies in a pan, scramble 2-3 eggs and add to veggie mixture, season as desired and enjoy!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Protein shake<\/strong> \u2013 choose protein powders wisely, READ THE LABEL!
