Your New Years Resolution into a Habit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s the most wonderful time of the year!\u00a0 The New Year is right around the corner, the holiday goodies are dwindling down, and the New Years Resolutions are being made.\u00a0 With the many benefits of exercise, its no wonder getting fit is such a common New Years Resolution.\u00a0 To name a few benefits, exercise:<sup>\u00a0<\/sup><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Controls body weight<\/li>\n<li>Strengthens muscles<\/li>\n<li>Improves the cardiovascular system<\/li>\n<li>Benefits mood<\/li>\n<li>Provides socialization<\/li>\n<li>And many, many more\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are like me, you always start the year off with the best intentions.\u00a0 The first couple of weeks go great, but then the busyness of life sets in and suddenly those resolutions get put on the back burner.\u00a0 The CDC recommends adults should get 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity aerobic exercise and muscle strengthening exercise 2 or more days per week.<sup>2<\/sup> Here are some ideas for turning your New Years Resolution into a habit.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Commit to a regular schedule and write it down. <\/strong>Set your alarm if you have to.\u00a0 Get into the habit of exercising the same times each week and write it into your schedule.\u00a0 Set aside specific time to spend on exercise.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make it a date with a friend.<\/strong> You wouldn\u2019t cancel dinner plans with a friend would you?\u00a0 Make exercise plans with a friend to keep each other accountable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do activities that you enjoy.<\/strong> You are more likely to continue doing something if it is meaningful and fun.\u00a0 If you enjoy being outside, go for a walk.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t enjoy lifting weights in a gym, avoid using that as a form of exercise.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do a variety of activities.<\/strong> Don\u2019t do the same thing each time you exercise.\u00a0 If you walk on Monday, then go for a swim on Wednesday, and do Pilates on Friday.\u00a0 It will keep your body guessing and keep you from getting bored with your exercise
