In general, the goals of physical therapy are to decrease pain, increase function, and provide education on a maintenance program to prevent further recurrences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Causes of back pain:\u00a0<sup>3<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Muscle or ligament strain<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bulging or ruptured discs. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arthritis. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skeletal irregularities<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Osteoporosis. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lifestyle factors<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Obesity<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poor posture<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have recurring \u00a0back pain, consider:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lose any excess weight <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wear flat shoes with cushioned soles \u2013 these can reduce the stress on your back<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avoid sudden movements or muscle strain<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try to reduce any stress, anxiety, and tension.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Physical therapists perform a variety of tests and measures including movement screens to dive in deep to find the root cause of your back pain and find factors that might contribute to your pain and create a customized treatment plan to help relieve your pain. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What to expect from a physical therapist during your visit:<sup>4<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The physical therapist will perform an initial evaluation during your visit<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the initial evaluation, a history about present problem and medical history will be taken. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The physical therapist will take measurements of movement&#8211;.
