Keto? Mediterranean? Weight Watchers?&nbsp;\nWhen people start these diets, they may see results, but if they ever\ndecide to try to go back to their previous meal plan, the weight easily packs\nright back on. Yo-yo dieting has become commonly seen because of these diet\ntricks. To avoid this, it is important to look at what is right and sustainable\nfor you and your lifestyle. Here are just a few of the most common nutrition\nplans we are seeing today:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ketogenic Diet<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WHAT IT IS: This trendy diet is a low-carb, high fat, and\nprotein-based diet. The idea behind this diet is that it is using fat stores\nfor energy. When the body is deprived of carbohydrates, which is the main\nsource of fuel for your body\u2019s cells, it finds alternate sources, such as fat\nstores.<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROS: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Promotes fat loss<\/li><li>Satisfying because of the high-fat components of\nthe diet.<sup>1<\/sup><\/li><li>High caloric burn because of the energy it takes\nto turn fat and protein into fuel<sup>1<\/sup>. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>CONS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Side effects such as fatigue, constipation,\nheadaches, or brain \u201cfog\u201d because of the lack of carbs.<sup>1<\/sup><\/li><li>Lack of balanced diet, which can lead to many\nnutrient deficiencies.<sup>1<\/sup> <\/li><li>Potential increase of kidney stones and\nosteoporosis.<sup>1<\/sup><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mediterranean Diet<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WHAT IT IS: This diet is a balanced eating approach that\noriginated in Southern European countries. The diet mainly consists of fruits\nand vegetables, whole grains, olive oil and fish. Food groups such as dairy and\nanimal proteins are limited. With this meal plan, exercise is recommended,\nencouraging an all-around healthy lifestyle.<sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>&nbsp;No major\nfood restrictions<\/li><li>&nbsp;Inexpensive\nand satisfying. <\/li><li>Years of research has shown it has helped combat\nheart disease, Type 2 Diabetes, and abnormal cholesterol levels<sup>2<\/sup><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>CONS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Risk of overeating since there are no\nrestrictions on portion sizes. <\/li><li>It can be time consuming to shop and prepare all\nmeals.<\/li><li>Certain dietary restrictions may cause\ndifficulty in getting proper nutrients with this meal plan.<sup>2<\/sup><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Commercial Nutrition Plans<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WHAT IT IS: These forms of weight-loss promoted plans give you specific food or meal plans. There are so many different plans out there such as  Weight Watchers<sup>3<\/sup>, Jenny Craig<sup>4<\/sup>, or Metifast<sup>5<\/sup>, to name a few. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Perfect for busy individuals <\/li><li>Food is already portioned out and\/or premade for\nyou. If using the correct product, it can be a well-balanced, healthy, and\neffective weight-loss strategy<\/li><li>Often comes with a health coach<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>CONS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Can be expensive<\/li><li>It is not flexible on what you can eat. Sometimes they have one meal that you can choose yourself, but it is restricted to certain food items.<\/li><li>Only a handful of these diets have been clinically tested and shown to have healthy outcomes. We recommend that you do research on each of these meal plans.<sup>6<\/sup><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter what nutritional plan you end up choosing, whether it is just eating healthier, or something a little stricter, it is important to find something that is not impossible for you to do. If you try to do too much at once, the chance of failure is higher. Choosing a plan that is balanced and still nutritious is more important than seeing the \u201c20 pounds lost in 6 weeks\u201d that is often seen advertised on social media.
