Perhaps you are double masking or going through more hand\nsanitizer than usual, Are you &nbsp;addressing\nthings that you cannot see inside your body? While we are following the\nrecommended guidelines and trying to avoid preexisting conditions, one that may\nnot be as commonly addressed is preventing inflammation in the body. Chronic\ninflammation can cause heart disease, the number one killer in the US. It is\nalso linked with type two diabetes, stroke, and obesity. It is estimated that 3\nin 5 people worldwide have died due to a type of inflammatory disease.<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our bodies respond to the signals that are given to them.\nWhen a cut or scrape appears or you eat expired food, the immune system is alerted,\nand an acute inflammatory response occurs. This means white blood cells are\nsignaled to go to the infected or injured area to help speed up the healing\nprocess. When inflammation lasts more than 2-6 weeks, it becomes chronic\ninflammation. This means that the body is constantly sending out white blood cells\nto heal an \u201cinfected\u201d area. Being overweight, for example, can cause this\ninflammation. The body sees the fat surrounding organs as a threat to your\nfunctioning systems. Therefore, white blood cells are sent to attack the fat,\nand often your organ can get in the crossfire.<sup>2 <\/sup>In turn, some side\neffects that come with this are fatigue, weight gain or loss, gastrointestinal\nissues, body aches and pains, and depression.<sup>1 <\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many foods in the \u201cWestern Diet\u201d can be linked to chronic\ninflammation. This diet is filled with ultra-processed food, foods high in\nsugar, saturated fats and salt, and fast food. All these foods can alter the\ngut\u2019s bacteria, signaling to the body that something is not right. When\nconsuming these foods regularly, the body is constantly thinking that it is\nunder attack and therefore, causes chronic inflammation.<sup>3<\/sup> Of course,\nconsuming these high-caloric foods regularly can likely lead to weight gain,\nwhich as stated before, also puts you at risk for chronic inflammation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While getting your body out of this state of chronic\ninflammation does not happen overnight, making daily habits to avoid this will\nbenefit you in the long run. Try including these habits into your everyday routine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><strong>Include fruits and vegetables<\/strong>. Berries,\ntomatoes, peppers, onion, and apples are just a few that are high in\nanti-inflammatories. <\/li><li><strong>Add foods with \u201cgood bacteria\u201d into your diet.<\/strong>\nThis type of bacteria comes from probiotic-rich, fermented foods such as\nyogurt, kombucha or sauerkraut. Adding these increases the healthy bacteria and\nenzymes to your gut which enhances your digestive system and immune system.<\/li><li><strong>Drink plenty of water<\/strong>. This helps flush\nout natural toxins that are in your body. The daily recommendation for water is\nabout 8 cups.<\/li><li><strong>Add daily supplementation<\/strong>. Adding a fish\noil supplement, turmeric, curcumin, or ginger, which are all-natural\nanti-inflammatory supplements, can help fight chronic inflammation.<sup>4<\/sup><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking these nutrition precautions can not only help you\nfight against the COVID-19 virus, but also many of the leading causes of death\nin America.
