{"id":5386,"date":"2021-07-16T19:18:23","date_gmt":"2021-07-16T19:18:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveyourlifept.com\/blog\/?p=5386"},"modified":"2021-07-16T19:18:23","modified_gmt":"2021-07-16T19:18:23","slug":"when-it-comes-to-eye-health-do-not-overlook-your-diet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/liveyourlifept.com\/blog\/2021\/07\/16\/when-it-comes-to-eye-health-do-not-overlook-your-diet\/","title":{"rendered":"When it comes to eye health, do not overlook your diet"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Healthy eyes are important at any age, and while most adults\nname eyesight as the most important of their five senses, 83% of them believe\nthat worsening eyesight is inevitable with age.<sup>1<\/sup> There is good news however, there is\nsomething that you can do to keep your eyes healthy; and the answer is often at\nthe end of your fork.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Here are 3 ways you can make a big\nimpact on the health of your eyes:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>#1: Omega\n3\u2019s are a must:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to healthy eyes, Omega 3s, often thought of as\n\u201cfish oil,\u201d play a crucial role.&nbsp; The\nretina of the eye contains and requires large amounts of Omega 3s to function\nproperly.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Consuming sufficient Omega 3\u2019s is highly protective of\nthe eye and is shown to help with:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Eyesight in different lighting <\/li><li>A reduced risk of retinopathy (a leading cause\nof blindness)<\/li><li>A decreased risk of, and reduced symptoms of dry\neye.<sup>2<\/sup> <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table is-style-regular\"><tbody><tr><td> <strong>Sources of Omega 3s:<\/strong>   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> <strong>Salmon<\/strong>   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Cod Liver Oil   <\/strong>(<em>Limit to 3 times per week due to high levels of vitamin A)<\/em>   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Vegetarian Option: Chia or Flax Seed <\/strong>(<em>Make sure flax seeds are ground   to reap the benefits)<\/em>   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Omega 3 Supplements. <\/strong>Look for a company that does 3<sup>rd<\/sup> party testing to ensure low mercury levels <em>(Nordic Naturals, 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century Healthcare, Olympian Labs are a few)<sup>3<\/sup><\/em>      <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>#2: Increase\nyour Intake of B Vitamins:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B Vitamins, often thought of as beneficial for energy, are\nalso great for our eyes.&nbsp; Particularly B6\n(pyridoxine), B9 (Folate\/Folic Acid), and B12 (Cobalamin).
