{"id":5396,"date":"2021-07-30T20:36:39","date_gmt":"2021-07-30T20:36:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveyourlifept.com\/blog\/?p=5396"},"modified":"2021-07-30T20:36:39","modified_gmt":"2021-07-30T20:36:39","slug":"maintaining-balance-and-stability-by-improving-core-strength","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/liveyourlifept.com\/blog\/2021\/07\/30\/maintaining-balance-and-stability-by-improving-core-strength\/","title":{"rendered":"Maintaining Balance and Stability by Improving Core Strength"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Balance is maintained through a combination of\nthree different body systems working together efficiently and effectively.\nThese systems include: <sup>1,2,3,4<\/sup>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(1) Vestibular \u201cinner ear\u201d system: provides\ninformation to the brain about motion, head position, and spatial orientation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(2) Visual system: eyes send signals to your\nbrain for where you are in space in relation to objects around you<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(3) Proprioceptive system: allows your body to\nbe aware of posture &amp; spatial awareness through the use of sensory nerves\nin muscles, tendons, and joints <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Core strength plays a vital role in your\nbody\u2019s proprioceptive system in order to maintain stability through postural\nand spatial awareness. A strong core keeps your body upright, improves posture,\nstabilizes and controls the pelvis and spine, reduces low back pain, promotes\nease of movement, and is responsible for your body\u2019s sense of balance and\ntherefore decreases your risk for falls <sup>4,5,6<\/sup>. Alternatively, a weak\ncore can lead to poor posture, low back pain, muscle injuries, and make you\nfeel off balance which could potentially lead to falls and additional risk of\ninjury <sup>4,5<\/sup>.
