On September 13th<\/sup> and 14th<\/sup>\n, I was fortunate enough to be a part of the APTA 100 year centennial\ncelebration in Washington DC. During my time in Washington DC I met leaders\nwithin the APTA and gained a greater insight on how to advocate for physical\ntherapists in MN and all over the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 13th, I arrived at the\nadvocacy day debriefing which contained ~ 500 physical therapists around the\ncountry excited to hear strategies on how to improve their communication skills\nto educate congress how important the 3.3% Medicare cut last year with a\nproposed 3.5% cut this year will impact patients across the nation especially\nin rural communities. For example, an elderly women on Medicare who lives in\nrural MN getting treated for spinal stenosis may not be able to get further\ntreatment if the cut goes through because her PT may get let go as the company\ncannot afford the current amount of staff on payroll and the patient ultimately\nsuffers from pain and no one to provide treatment to reduce her pain.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day was the day everyone\nwas waiting for, getting to meet congress. The energy maintained getting on the\nbus and stepping onto capital grounds. Unfortunately, I was unable to meet\nCongressman Stauber, but able to meet his staff in person was incredible. Being\ninside the office of a congressman and the staff having similar goals to help\nrural MN get the physical therapy they need was reassuring they are on mission\nas well. After the meeting why not jump to go see more of the capital, supreme\ncourt, and Washington monument. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I hope this brings greater\nattention to advocating for Physical Therapists and patients across the nation.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
