Did you know that the average person consumes 3,000 calories and 229 grams of fat at a typical Thanksgiving Day meal?

Healthy Tips:

  • Serve healthy low calorie appetizers
  • Serve and consume a wide variety of vegetables
  • Use smaller plates
  • Set up food buffet style so guests have to get up and walk over to get seconds….
  • Use less fat and less sugar in your cooking
  • Eat slower, chew food longer and eat less
  • Stay active

Moderation is key! Resolve to not be the average person who gains 7 to 10 pounds during the holidays!  By drinking water before meals, can help you feel full sooner.

Replace the green bean casserole with:
Green Beans with Shallots

1/4 cup olive oil
4 large shallots, peeled and quartered
2 Tbsp. reduced-sodium chicken broth
2 lbs. green beans, trimmed

1.  Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
2.  While water is heating, pour olive oil into a large sauté pan over medium heat. Add shallots. Reduce heat to medium-low and sauté until shallots are soft, about 10 minutes. Add chicken broth, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper; stir well. Remove from heat.
3.  Add green beans to boiling water and cook for 5 minutes. Drain and toss beans with shallot mixture. Ready to serve!
