Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and you don’t need a partner to celebrate! You can commemorate this holiday by practicing self-love. Self-love is a regard for one’s own well-being and happiness which can include appreciating yourself, doing things that make you happy and practicing acts of self-care. Our days consist of helping and showing our appreciation for others whether it’s your partner, kids, grandkids, or friends. But rarely do we acknowledge ourselves and the accomplishments we make each day. Practicing self-love can seem like a selfish and egocentric task, but it truly allows us to take care of ourselves which we need occasionally. Here are our 10-self-care idea to practice self-love this Valentine’s Day:
- Prioritize Your Sleep: Getting enough sleep is one of the best ways to take care of your body and has many benefits for physical and mental health. Waking up refreshed is the best way to start your day.
- Try Deep Breathing: Deep breathing allows you to relax and re-focus your mind to take on the obstacles your life may throw at you.
- Listen to a Podcast or Music: If you are ever feeling alone, a podcast or music is a great way to put your mind at ease.
- Organize Your Space: Whether it’s cleaning your bedroom, bathroom, or another space in your home, creating a more organized physical space can help clear your mind and make you feel more put together.
- Move Your Body: Going for a long walk outside, practicing yoga or Pilates, or hitting the gym for a workout are all wonderful ways to do something good for your health and give you an appreciation for all the ways your body can move.
- Cook a Healthy Meal: Cooking (or baking) can be a great way to de-stress after a long day. A healthy diet is the foundation for a well-balanced lifestyle.
- Take Yourself on a Date: There are many benefits to “dating yourself” but learning how to be happy with yourself and feeling okay with being alone can help increase your self-love.
- Pamper Yourself: You deserve it! Whether you take a long bath or a hot shower, all these acts are simple but effective when it comes to promoting relaxation.
- Read a Book: Reading is another way to relieve stress in addition to exercising your brain.
- Write Down 5 Things that You Love about Yourself: If you don’t have the time or space to accomplish any of the ideas above, try to take 5 minutes out of your day to write down 5 things you love about yourself or things that make you happy. All you need is a pencil and paper!
