I’d like to welcome our guest blogger, Sandy Pham-Vang- OD from Sharp Vision. Being a Doctor of Optomotry, Sandy has some interesting facts and suggestions to make your workplace safer and more “eye friendly” so that at the end of a long, hard day you know your eyes are being treated right!

Welcome our guest blogger, Dr. Sandy Pham-Vang:

March is Workplace Eye Wellness Month. Whether you spend hours in front of a computer or use power tools at your day job, it is ALWAYS important to keep eye health and safety in mind. The gift of sight is precious and must be cared for.

With increase of technology and the use of digital devices, this exposes workers to eye strain as they spend long, uninterrupted amounts of time focusing on the computer screen. Here are some things that you can do to help reduce eye strains with computer use and at work:

Utilize the 20/20/20 Rule: Take a 20 second break every 20 minutes and focus your vision on something that is 20 feet away.

Remember to Blink: When working on a computer or any other electronic device for an extended amount of time, you tend to blink less often. It’s important to blink tokeep your eyes moist.

Regular Eye Exam: The first step in preventing eye straining is to schedule a regular eye examination with your doctor. Eye
exams are a great way to keep tabs on your eye health. Be sure to tell you eye doctor if you use electronic devices as part of your daily work routine.

Computer Eye Wear: Your eye doctor may be able to prescribe eyewear specifically designed for computer use. This eyewear can actually help alleviate eye strain when using electronic devices.

Take Mini Breaks: Get up, stretch, walk around, and give your eyes a rest from focusing on your screen.  Try to get enough sleep at night.

Safety Eyewear: If your job requires the use of heavy machinery, be sure to remember safety glasses. All it takes is a tiny sliver of metal, a particle of dust or a splash of chemical to cause significant and even permanent eye damage.

Follow these simple steps to make your eyes function better.

As Dr. Pham-Vang commented, keeping these tips in mind daily can help save your eyesight and have you working comfortably. Physical therapy is not always a cut and dry therapeutic approach on muscles, tendons, and nerves. Physical therapy encompasses the entire body; often parts that you would never even think about as part of “therapy” in order to ensure that you remain healthy from head to toe. Don’t forget that if you have pain from working on your computer continuously, whether it’s neck pain, back pain, wrist pain or other, LYLPT can help alieve your aches and pains. Our therapists can also work with you to find ergonomic solutions to your workplace problems. You need to Live and Work Healthy and we can make it hapen. Live Your Life Physical Therapy,LLC wants you to know that we are here to help you LiveYour Life Healthy from top to bottom and that includes those beautiful eyes.
